(CBS Detroit) – The city of Detroit continues to grow as a high fashion destination.

On Friday, luxury fashion designer Sherri McMullen opened a pop-up shop in partnership with real estate developer Bedrock. This is McMullen’s first brick and mortar location outside of California.

“McMullen is excited to open a pop-up in Detroit, which, like Oakland, has a rich history and culture and is generally underrepresented in the fashion industry,” said Sherri McMullen. “We look forward to exploring the city’s arts, entertainment and food scene and engaging in meaningful conversations with the Detroit community through a collection of up-and-coming designers, as well as facilitating connections and knowledge sharing.”

On the store’s opening day, a steady stream of visitors came to browse and shop. One customer, Alia Hines, is a longtime online fan who was thrilled to discover McMullin’s new Detroit location.

“Nice, nice clothes,” Hines said. “To be able to do this in the city and especially in the city and not be able to go out to the suburbs is amazing. I just come from work, and I can do that.”

Vogue named McMullen one of the best boutiques in the country.

Woodward’s store carries clothing, accessories and home decor from Detroit-born designers such as Christopher John Rogers, Proenza Schouler and Tracy Reese.

“I’m thrilled that McMullen has chosen to pop up in Detroit! Sherry McMullen is a true retailer and true businessperson with an incredible eye for fun and wearable fashion,” said Reese.

McMullen isn’t the first luxury brand to launch recently. Gucci opened its doors on Library Street in August.

“That shows they see what’s going on in Detroit,” Hines said. “Detroit has always been a vibrant city and I think all the amazing artistic talent, all the amazing people we have in the city and the energy and investment they’re putting into it. I love to see it, it’s great.”

The pop-up will be open for the next six months at 1419 Woodward Ave.

Store hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon – 5 p.m. Sunday.
