Although there has been no official word from Woking’s camp and a contract recognition board case involving Alpine is still pending, Piastri appears set to race for McLaren in 2023 under manager Webber’s deal.
The possibility of Piastre resting has led the team to reach an agreement to release Ricciardo at the end of this season.
Even so, Riccardo Piastri and manager Mark Webber said the move to secure the vacant McLaren seat was “just business”.
“I honestly still don’t know what the future holds for Oscar,” he said when asked if he saw what had happened in recent weeks as F1 business as usual.
“But yeah, I mean, based on this contract, that’s the only thing.
“And Mark is just doing his work for the Oscars. So I don’t take anything personal. Considering the Oscars… I think I’m sure he’ll be on the grid somewhere next year.”
“So I support him, and I support one Australian and yes, I don’t take it personally.

Ricciardo has said that he has had no contact with Piastre’s camp in recent weeks.
“Have I heard from him? No, I don’t think there is any reason for him to reach out.
“I’m sure they’re going through their stuff, too. I was just trying to get my stuff sorted.”
Wednesday’s confirmation of Ricciardo’s departure from McLaren sparked outrage on social media, particularly among Australian fans.
Asked if he had a message, he said, “Well, I’m not going to tell them not to support me! I guess people are emotional about the decision. But it’s business.
“Like I said, Mark is looking for an Oscar, he’s got his work cut out for him.
“So this is the place. It’s a sport, but at the same time a business, so if you want it, you have to put yourself first. And that’s it.
“It’s definitely not the result I wanted, and when I joined the team, I had a different idea of how it would turn out. But that is the reality of the situation.
“And obviously, Zach is there. [Brown] And the team felt that it would go, so that was it. I’m glad I got the support, but I don’t want to give in to the negativity I feel towards others.
