William Ambrose has seen hard times during his decade running Bradco Chair Co. in Lisbon, but he has persevered and prospered, and for that he was named Maine’s Small Business Person of the Year this week.

“That company was on the ropes a few years ago, but Bill has been successful through tough times and is doing well now,” said Fleet Bank Lending Officer Ken Addyton, who nominated Ambrose for the U.S. Small Business Administration honor. .

Ambrose bought the company 10 years ago from Bob Bradbury, son of founder Alton Bradbury. At that time, the product line was basically one item, heavy pine captain and mate chairs for dining room sets. Now the company offers handmade wooden chairs in many styles as well as stools, tables, chairs and beds.

Although typos and errors have been corrected, the material used in retrospect has been prepared in the same way as the original.
