Celebrates “The Best Team” since its establishment 6 years ago.

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont specialty food manufacturer, Runamok, recently raised its entry-level production hourly wage to $20 an hour. The Fairfax-based company’s mission statement includes creating “products with a careful eye for taste, materials and design”. Runamok sells premium organic maple syrup, honey and cocktail syrups and bitters nationwide.

According to co-founder Eric Sorkin, about 40 employees will immediately benefit from this change, as well as the 20-25 team members the company hopes to hire this season.

“As a food producer, we are seeing today’s supply chain and labor shortage challenges putting pressure on prices. It is clear to me how important the wage increase is to our production workers and their families. But, more than anything, it was the right thing to do and it was time to resume our position, at the front.”

In the year In 2021 testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Sorkin said, “As business owners, we do everything we can to support our employees. It sounds small, but it’s true: our business is nothing more and nothing less than the team we build. We strive to make it a place our employees can be proud of. We want to provide the best for our employees and we hope they do the same for us.

While labor shortages have placed turnover demands on workers at manufacturing companies in the province, Runamok aims to grow its business sustainably. Employee retention is a priority, so the job is to provide rapid talent development.
