The San Francisco 49ers have nine road games on their 2023 regular season schedule. One of those games, Kyle Shanahan’s wife refused to attend.
49ers head coach Shanahan discussed the team’s schedule in an interview Wednesday night at the Dwight Clark Legacy Series event at the California Theater.
“I don’t like going back to Philly again,” Shanahan said, via the San Jose Mercury News. “My wife is furious about this. She didn’t like her fans’ experience at The Standard; So she’s not going this time.
Shanahan did not provide an explanation for his wife’s experience in last year’s NFC Championship game in Philadelphia, but it is not difficult to draw conclusions. Eagles fans are hostile, rude and occasionally violent.
Mandy Shanahan isn’t the only member of the 49ers family who refuses to return to Philadelphia. Sydney Warner, the wife of 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, said in February that she would never again attend a game in Philly because of the rude and disrespectful fans.
“I’ll probably never go back to that stadium to be honest,” she said. “I guess you could just call me a wimp, but I couldn’t stand the fans… to be honest, I didn’t feel very safe.
“Fred told me not to wear any red,” Sydney added. “I ended up with a red bag, but people were being violent so I hid it under my jacket. He got drunk…he got in my face…everything is intimidation.
You can bet that Shanahan, Warner and other members of their family around the organization want to exact a little revenge on Philadelphia for the way they were treated.
The 49ers and Eagles will renew their growing rivalry on Sunday, December 3 at Lincoln Financial Field.
