Kate Middleton’s top Easter fashion moments

As an important religious holiday celebrated by Christians around the world, Easter is a central holiday in the British royal family’s annual calendar.

This year, the first royal Easter will be celebrated under the leadership of the new King, Charles III. Each year the sovereign attends a Maundy Thursday ceremony at a different cathedral around Britain. As usual on Easter Sunday, members of the royal family gather at Windsor Castle to attend a special church service at St George’s Church within the palace walls.

Kate Middleton has been among the royals to attend Sunday services for 4 of the 12 years she has been married to Prince William. In the year Starting in 2017, she took a two-year leave every year in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic.

As with any of Kate’s formal appearances, royal watchers are anxiously waiting to see what she wears. For each of her Easter Sunday services so far, Kate has paid homage to her local sensibilities and re-worn outfits from previous high-profile appearances.

2017

In the year

The coat was designed by London-based Catherine Walker & Company, who rose to fame wearing it for Princess Diana in the 1980s and 1990s. Diana, who was pregnant with Prince William, developed a close working relationship with designer Walker, and later in her life, his house dressed her for more royal occasions than any other.

Kate began building her own relationship with the business, now run by Walker’s late husband, Said Cyrus, after marrying her in 2011.

Kate paired the coat with a matching peybox hat with cream suede heels and a clutch bag. The coat itself was a re-wear, first introduced in With William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte on the royal tour of Canada in 2016.

2018

In the year For the royal service on Easter Sunday in 2018, Kate once again wore a rare black ensemble designed by Catherine Walker & Co.

The princess was pregnant with her third child, Prince Louis, and in 2011 She re-worn the dark, loose-fitting coat dress she wore when she was pregnant with Princess Charlotte to the Irish Guards’ St Patrick’s Day parade in 2015.

Kate also wore the same accessories from the first collection again. For a hat, the royal chose a chocolate brown suede pillbox hat from Lock & Co in the “Betty Boop” style, and for jewelry she chose an oversized pearl necklace and earrings.

2019

In the year In 2019, Kate Middleton wore the dress she first designed five years ago for an Easter service while she and Prince William were on tour in Australia and New Zealand.

The royals wore a dove gray coat dress, again by Catherine Walker & Co., which showed the princess plunging with a stand-up collar and ruffled cuffs.

To accessorize, Kate wore a custom hat by London-based Jane Taylor Millinery and carried her 2011 wedding dress from the designer team with an Alexander McQueen back clutch bag.

2022

For her recent Easter Sunday appearance at Windsor Castle, Kate tapped into her glamorous fashion repertoire and wore a pale blue wrap coat dress from designer Emilia Wickstead.

Wickstead is a designer who has dressed both Kate and her mother-in-law Meghan Markle for many high-profile occasions. In particular, she designed the emerald green dress that will be worn by Meghan as a working member of the Royal Family in 2020.

In the year In 2017, Kate wore her blue Wickstead coat for a solo visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 2017, and in 2019 she updated it with a blue quilted headpiece from Jane Taylor Millinery.
