  • According to the Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk had an affair with the wife of Google founder Sergey Brin.
  • Brin and Nicole Shanahan divorced in January of this year, shortly after Brin found out about it, according to the report.
  • Brin, a longtime friend of Musk, has pulled out investments from the Tesla CEO’s various companies in recent months.

Elon Musk was reportedly romantically involved last season with the wife of Google founder Sergey Brin, Musk’s longtime friend and Tesla investor, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The affair led to Brynn’s divorce from Nicole Shanahan in January, the WSJ reported. According to court filings, the two cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split, and the filings came weeks after Brin learned of the affair, the Journal reported.

A source close to the matter told the Journal that the relationship between Musk and Brin has been strained in recent months, and Brin has instructed his financial advisors to sell the Tesla CEO’s various businesses. Brin invested $500,000 in Tesla in 2008.

Sources told the Journal that at the time of the affair — which began in December 2021 at Art Basel Miami — Brin and Shanahan were separated, but still living together.

The sources said Brynn and Shanahan were having problems in their marriage at the time, mostly related to stress related to COVID-19 and caring for their 3-year-old daughter.

The affair reportedly began when Musk and his girlfriend, Grimes, broke up. Grimes and Musk have two children, including a daughter who was born a surrogate last month.

The news comes after a particularly busy few months for Musk in both his personal and professional life. Earlier this month, Insider Julia Black reported that the billionaire quietly acquired the twins last November from Shivonne Zillis, director of operations and director of special projects for one of Musk’s companies, Neuralink.

His father, Errol Musk, 76, is said to have recently fathered a second child with his stepson and told The Sun that he is asking more people like his son to donate sperm to help him reproduce.

Meanwhile, Musk is currently embroiled in a contentious legal battle with Twitter after the Tesla CEO pulled out of a $44 billion deal to buy the social media platform. In a letter provided by Musk’s lawyers, the company disputed that Twitter had now “fulfilled its contractual obligations” and is now taking Musk to court.
