Toronto — (Business Wire— Stephanie Eagletail Designs, a Canadian fashion label that specializes in custom-made quilts based on its founder’s Native heritage and traditions, has announced its runway debut in New York City. Designed and directed by Stephanie Crowschild in the Tsuu T’ina Treaty 7 Territory near Calgary, Alberta, the label will debut its 10-piece collection at RISE New York Fashion Week (RISE NYFW) to an international audience at Studio Arte. – A dynamic platform designed to highlight the work of talented new designers.
Each piece presented on the runway draws inspiration from Crowchild’s indigenous culture and family, meticulously crafted using up-cycled wool materials including Kokums and Chapan (grandfather and grandfather in Crowchild’s traditional Cree language) and HBC Multistripe Dot blankets. Rooted in the complex history of Aboriginal and colonial communities in Canada.
“My late grandfather, Fred Eagletail, used to wear Hudson’s Bay quilts to events in Calgary, and when he passed, we often found Hudson’s Bay quilts,” says Stephanie Crowchild. “It inspired me to create my own version to honor him and create an item that represents HBC’s past with Indigenous peoples. I am honored to showcase my designs on this international platform and represent my community.
