Hear how Minio made a unicorn in Kubernetes and open source storage

Everything needs a home, and Garima Kapoor co-founded Minion to build an enterprise-grade, open-source object storage solution. The hype sounds amazing: simple, high-performance and native Kubernetes integration. I’m excited to announce that I’ll be interviewing Kapur and MiniO investor Mark Rostick about MiniO’s growth and how the company is managing tough competition.

This TechCrunch Live event is free to attend, and I hope you can make it. Register here.

It may not be the most crowded area for a company to grow, but the Minio has found a niche in direct competition with Amazon’s S3. Perhaps the open source component will help drive interest from the target developer market looking for an alternative to the cloud giant. It’s not easy to compete with the likes of Amazon, but Minio has managed to find success.

Garima Kapoor co-founded Minio in 2014 and has since grown the company to a billion dollar valuation. Along the way, Kapoor raised $126.30 million from venture capital, including Intel Capital’s Mark Rostick.

I have several questions about Minio:

  • Why is it in direct competition with Amazon?
  • What role has open source played in building a developer audience?
  • How have cloud-native technologies contributed to your success?
  • What made Mark and Intel Capital think they could succeed in this crowded and mature market?

And you can ask questions too! Each week at TechCrunch Live, registered hoppin’ attendees can submit questions, and I’ll do my best to ask as many as I can.
