A local construction company has a new president.

Black Lake Construction named Jimmy Greene as its new president this week. Green comes to the company from Michigan-based Associated Builders and Contractors, where he was the first black president and CEO in its 60-year history.

Green will join the black-owned construction firm as a shareholder.

“We are committed to addressing the racial wealth gap and creating opportunities for minorities to become shareholders in multiple platforms, helping to provide hope, stability and opportunity for future generations of color,” said John Hendershot, principal of Black Lake Construction. Black Lake Construction is part of the development team for Black Wall Street Grand Rapids, which aims to transform the southeast side of the city.

Black Lake Construction is a portfolio company of Black Lake Companies, which also includes Great Lakes Technical School for Utilities and Communications and Black Lake Service Contractors.

Black Lake Companies launched in 2022 with four principals: Hendershot, Clarkston Morgan, Paul Love and Preston Sain. The organization aims to bring together a consortium of companies that are at least 51% owned and managed by minority parties.

Black Lake Companies also announced two new portfolio companies this week.

On Friday, it announced Black Lake Logistics, which specializes in logistics services for businesses of all sizes. It is led by President and CEO Kareem Scales.

Along with the logistics services, the vehicle fleet plan is in operation.

Earlier this week, the umbrella company announced the addition of the So Clean pressure washer.

So Pure Pressure Washing is a partnership between Black Lake Companies and Espoir Razie, who moved to Grand Rapids in the African Congo.
