Flipping through these pages definitely creates a sense of wanderlust. From stable walking paths and Cowboy To build an uneasy journey toward the ultimate guide to barbecues, editor Kevin Allen and associate editor Grace Mada recall their favorite stories in this dreamy magazine.

Also featured in the new issue’s pages is Hawaii Magazine’s 24th Annual Photo Contest. With hundreds of submissions, this year was especially challenging for the team to select finalists and winners. The winning images in the magazine beautifully capture the magic of the islands’ places and people. Hear Kevin and Grace talk about their favorite photos of the contest.

The two players discussed the surfing competition that currently dominates Hawaii news. The Eddie Ikau Big Wave Invitational was held in Waimea Bay for the first time in seven years. Held on January 22. Grace headed to Oahu’s North Shore to watch the historic surf contest. In the year Since its inception in 1984, the tournament has been held for the tenth time. Eddy is difficult to schedule because it only occurs in Waimea Bay and when waves reach 20 feet between December 14th and March 23rd.

It was a historic year for Eddie. Six professional female surfers were among the elite athletes who were invited and paddled into the fearsome waves on Sunday. But in the end, it was 27-year-old Luke Shepardson, a North Shore surfer and lifeguard who beat title holder and 2-time world champion John Florence.
