Oneonta, New York – The Hawks scored early and scored often in both teams’ Empire 8 opener with a 7-2 victory over the visiting St. John Fisher Cardinals. In the year St. John Fisher’s 24-game winning streak against E8 foes in regular season league play dating back to 2018.

What you need to know
- Holly Calore (Rocky Point, NY) sparked the Hawks’ offense for the second game in a row, shooting Julie Rousey’s (High Falls, NY) shot from the top of the circle into the back of the cage.
- Sydney Gannon (Chestertown, NY) scored the first goal of the game when she was matched by Leah Tolley’s (Pittsford, NY) rebound off the keeper’s pad and found Gannon alone at the left post for the goal.
- St. John Fisher fought back, scoring with no time left in the first quarter.
- Gannon struck again with just over a minute to go to get her second goal of the game on a breakaway.
- Gannon picked up where she left off, scoring her third goal of the game and the Hawks’ fourth just over two minutes into the second half. Rousey picked up the assist after intercepting a pass to Gannon.
- Libby Fortin (State College, Pa.) gave Hartwick a 5-1 advantage with a penalty kill.
- After assisting on two layups, Rousey found the back of the net with a header herself from the top of the circle with thirty seconds left in the third quarter.
- Rounding out the scoring for Hartwick was Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, NY) who tapped one inside the left post off a lift pass from Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, NY).
- St. John Fisher scored their second goal late in the fourth quarter, but it was nothing as the Hawks ended the game with a 7-2 victory.

Hartwick will take a short break from Empire 8 play, traveling to the Union for a midweek match on Wednesday September 21 at 6pm.
