Harlem Fashion Row partners with LVMH to present three color designers during NYFW

Celebrating its 15th year, Harlem Fashion Row (HFR) has partnered with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH) to feature three designers of color at New York Fashion Week. The collaborative presentation on September 6 is the result of HFR’s newly formed LVMH partnership. Together, the two entities are on a mission to inspire dynamic change for Harlem and provide new opportunities for the next generation of BIPOC designers.

This September, rising designers Clarence Root, Jonathan Hayden and Nicole Benefield will kick off NYFW on the runway in celebration of HFR and LVMH. Learn more about each selected talent below.

Clarence Ruth

Today, Clarence Root sits at the helm of his own menswear label Cote d’Armes – an imprint largely defined by its innovative denim inclusions and military inspiration – but his journey to that position was an adventure. Root began as a fashion model and artist and has had his colorful works exhibited at the Polk Museum of Art and the Museum of African Art. After achieving success in the aforementioned domains, the multi-hyphenate sought to combine his two passions in clothing, landing roles as head of visuals for Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, John Varvatos and Andrew Buckler. Not long after, Cote d’Armes was born.

Johnathan Hayden

Contemporary womenswear designer Jonathan Hayden fuses traditional craftsmanship with contemporary style. Incorporating technical elements into his designs, the creator listens to the needs of women in STEM-related fields and builds consciousness – all working to clothe the modern mind, or “brain before the body”. In particular, the visionary is committed to making clean, sustainable pieces without compromising its creative integrity.

Nicole Benefield

Nicole Benefield executes a casually elevated vision with fashion-forward silhouettes and thoughtful creations. Under her slow fashion label Nicole Benefield’s portfolio, the designer presents a series of pieces made in small batches using organic, biodegradable and sustainable fabrics. An appreciator of style and wearability, Benefield prides herself on championing “emotion over trend” – and take a look at her latest collection and you’ll see exactly what she means.
