Elon Musk’s father has revealed that his son has installed new high-tech security measures at his South African home, amid growing kidnapping fears.
Errol Musk, a 76-year-old retired engineer, was visited by contractors at his home in Langebaan, 90 miles north of Cape Town, in December.
He says the new security measures are ‘first class’ – he doesn’t like living in a prison, but having lived in crime-ridden Johannesburg and Pretoria, he says he’s used to being locked up.

He told The Sun that his home had been broken into four times in the past year alone and a television stolen.
‘Honestly, the risk of something bad happening or literally getting shot is too great,’ he said.
‘I certainly won’t be doing any aerial car rallies, let me put it that way.
‘It’s not that hard to kill me if someone wants to, so hopefully they won’t.’

Errol, who has fathered at least seven children with three different women, including two with his stepdaughter Jana Bezuidenhuyt, 34, said he believed his son’s fears were caused by Twitter’s new ownership.

‘After the recent threats against him, he decided I needed protection too,’ said Errol.
‘If you take one of us, it’s the fastest $20 million they’ve ever made in their lifetime.
I think Elon is a little too soft on the enemies he makes, especially on Twitter.
‘I’m not afraid, but I’m afraid something might happen to Elon, even though he has about 100 security guards around him.’
Errol says his home in the Western Cape now has a high-tech camera system, an electrified fence and is monitored around the clock by guards ‘armed to the teeth’.
He told the paper: ‘The people at Elon contacted me saying they wanted to protect my house completely.
“I received a notice from this security company in December saying we have instructions to protect the house.
‘So now I have nine cameras around my house that are monitored 24/7 and that I watch on my phone and TV.
They also installed an electric fence around my house.
Now I have first class security. It’s unbelievable’.

He said that as it is powered by a generator, it will work even when South Africa is at risk of blackouts.
Errol said the system cost about $15,000 and the security agents were ‘armed to the teeth’.
He added: “They always checked on me. If they see a strange car on my street, they come in and ask me if I’m okay.
‘I hate living like this, but I’ve lived like this in Johannesburg and Pretoria, and I understand where he’s coming from.’
Elon’s relationship with his father is a far cry from that of his mother, Mae, in which Elon is often seen.
May Musk divorced Errol in 1979 when Elon was eight years old.
Elon lived with his mother and left South Africa for Canada at the age of 17.
Now 70, May lives in New York City — her ninth city in three countries.
