Globalstar hires Chirag Patel to grow satellite-based IoT business

Globalstar It hired IoT industry veteran Chirag Patel as Director of Product Management to lead the company’s vision for Industrial IoT. He will go to market plans for product vision, strategy, roadmap and industrial IoT products, services and software as a service solutions.

Patel has joined Globalstar. CarrierThermal control of trucks led to the launch of the Lynx Fleet IoT solution. He also previously worked for the startup Infora, leading the digitization of Verizon’s mobile device management platform, ThingSpace. There, he launched several cellular modems, mobile tracking, asset tracking products and a SaaS platform for the transportation industry.

In his new role, Patel will report to Dave Hite, vice president of IoT, who joined Globalstar from AT&T earlier this year.

“Chirag is a special addition to our team. With his extensive background and expertise in IoT hardware and software products and services, his experience will be invaluable in leading Globalstar’s growing IoT business,” said Haight.

Globalstar has been investing in the satellite IoT business with Hait & Patel as a hire. Earlier this year, the company purchased 17 new satellites from MDA to complement and extend the life of the existing SPOT Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation. Globalstar said the $327 million would serve the interests of an unnamed “potential customer.”
