Italia De La Cruz, a self-employed small business owner, has filed to run for District 6 on the Fort Worth City Council. Including incumbent Jared Williams, there are also official candidates for the seat. The application deadline is February 17.

“Fort Worth needs to prioritize what makes sense to the average citizen,” De La Cruz said in a Facebook announcement. “Let’s restore our quality of life, lower taxes, support small businesses, and limit the excesses of city government.”

De la Cruz is a small business owner, immigrant and mother, she said on Facebook.

District 6 includes parts of south-central Fort Worth.

Municipal elections are coming up. Here are some key dates:

January 18: Candidates start filing

February 17: Last date for nominations

April 6: Last day to register to vote

April 24: Early voting begins

May 2: Early voting ends

May 6: Election Day

Candidates from all 11 districts will contest for 6 seats in Diyas.

Two districts – 10 and 11 – will be filled for the first time, after the city council passed a re-map to establish them.
