Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but Sunshine City is still getting praise and attention from major publications. Forbes released its annual list of America’s Best Places this week, and St. Pete was one of 20 destinations to make the cut.
The distinction puts our city on the same esteemed list as places like Puerto Rico, Portland (both Maine and Oregon), Niagara Falls, Savannah, and Vail, Colorado. Saint Pete was one of two Florida destinations, with the Destin-Fort Walton Beach area of the Panhandle committing.
Organizers credit St. Pete for its arts scene, LGBTQ+-friendly environment and nightlife, noting that the walkable (and waterfront) city is right next to the beach. Terry Ward wrote a review of the city, from a Florida-based travel writer who has been featured on CNN, National Geographic, Lonely Planet, and The Washington Post, among many other outlets.

With 35 miles of uninterrupted coastline, including some of Florida’s top-rated beaches and an arts and culture scene, it’s no wonder St. Pete is popping up on travelers’ radars. The Dalí Museum continues to offer unique and innovative exhibits that explore multisensory, immersive experiences for all types of travelers and visit the destination.
Also attractive: “It’s an LGBTQ+ paradise and home to the state’s largest pride parade,” says Ward. “And the new St. Pete Pier has become a year-round gathering center, whether you’re casting a line on the pier amid the pop-up roller rink, pelicans and fishermen, or enjoying sweeping views of downtown and Tampa Bay. A rooftop tiki bar bathed in the salt breeze.
“And when it comes to soaking in St. Pete’s annual 361 days of sunshine, it doesn’t always happen on the beach. This year, the 75-mile Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail Loop is being completed with a 6.7-mile addition. The heavily used trail stretches from Tarpon Springs to St. Pete with connections to coastal communities along the way, making it a great way to explore the area.
