Fashion Police Squad is a tongue-in-cheek shooter styled like retro first-person shooters, AKA “Boomer Shooters”. There are plenty of references and meme-inspired jokes sprinkled throughout the gameplay, some of which may require non-fashionable gamers to do some research.
You play as Sergeant Des, a sewing machine-law officer who is ready to call out anyone who commits crimes against fashion. Despite the carefree and downright silly concept behind the game, Fashion Police Squad combines first-person shooter games like Doom with a modern sense of humor to make for a challenging yet fun game.
7 Remember that it is a shooter
It might be easy to get lost in the ridiculous idea of a proper fashion police wielding sewing machines as weapons, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be an easy game. At its heart, it’s a first-person shooter with straightforward enemies and targets.
Treating the Fashion Police team as a joke – even though what they do in game is really funny – makes the game harder to play. Some levels are more difficult than others, so keep in mind that it’s important to approach that strategy.
6 You will get two weapons
You can only carry two weapons at a time, and there are five total choices in the game. They’re all fashion-related items, like a functional sewing machine or a comical sock gnome.
It is important to consider strategy, choosing the two weapons to carry should be a deliberate plan. You have unlimited ammo with all weapons, but don’t think you can rely on just one for an entire level or game. Every fashion crime is different and requires different steps to solve, so switching between the two tools is your best option.
5 You lose grades
Obviously, no one wants to lose when playing games, but it can be to your advantage. Some levels are especially harder than others, and what you struggle with may be different than what others struggle with, but in the end the advice is the same: lose. It may take you a few level games to figure out all the details, but making a mental note of what’s right and what’s wrong will help you win.
Even if you beat a level, you may find that there are achievements that you won’t unlock. This, in turn, resolves by taking more time to look around and pay attention to the finer details of your surroundings.
4 Develop your sniper skills
As you play, you’ll notice that some levels require sniper skills to achieve 100 percent completion. There will be fashion criminals hiding high and low from you, and the only way to reach them is to imitate them. You may not care about 100 percent of the fashion police team, and that’s fine, but the only way to do that is to have excellent aqua skills.
Depending on your gameplay style, you’ll likely spend most of the levels using your sewing machine entirely, so when it’s time to use your sniper skills, you’ll be in trouble. This is why it is important to take the time to gradually master the skill as you play.
3 It is helping you, not hurting you.
Even though you are classified as a first-person shooter and have ‘unlimited ammo’ and ‘sniper skills’, you are not killing the criminals in the fashion police team. Your goal is to help the fashion faux pas to look like the game puts them in socks with their shoes – fabulous, chic and glamorous.
The game itself is very inclusive, and aside from some mild humor, it’s family-friendly by today’s standards (no actual rating has been given to the game). The overall feel is light and fun so it’s a great game if you don’t like jump scares or taking too much damage.
2 Understand the challenge
You can only change the difficulty level of Fashion Police Squad at the beginning of the game. You might be the type of player who immediately bites off more than you can chew, or you might think that being a fashion cop can’t be that hard, but either way, try the lowest difficulty first.
Fashion Police Squad does a good job of getting you ready for gameplay, but quickly throws new things at you. If you start out on hard difficulty settings, you might not enjoy the game as much as you should. Whatever setting you choose, be prepared for the challenge accordingly – and remember that you can always start a new game on a different difficulty level if you want/want to.
1 Enjoy the joke
Even if you want to remember the look of Fashion Police Squad Shooter and definitely don’t want to think that the game is a joke, be sure to take a moment to appreciate the humor. Part of it is sarcasm, like the secret informant Deep Coat – other jokes come from costumes and dances and, of course, fashion crimes.
As much effort goes into the script as gameplay for Fashion Police Squad, so make sure you’re having as much fun as possible while playing.
