Escape Troy is officially open, bringing a unique and immersive experience to Pike County for those looking for a challenge.

Escape Troy is owned by Aaron Johnson, who owns and operates Escape Enterprise in Coffee County. Currently, Escape Troy offers a full escape room with VR headsets and a mini escape room, which is also portable. Escape Troy plans to bring a mini escape room to local events.

“We’re pushing ourselves to create something great that gives people joy and challenges you,” said Lelon Crizo, manager of Escape Troy. “When you go to the movies, you’re only there to watch. You don’t participate, you are a witness. Here, we are trying to create an hour-long event where you are immersed in the experience.

The immersive experience at Escape Troy begins the minute you walk through the door.

This sense of immersion begins the minute you walk through the door, says Crizo, which is the focal point of Escape Troy.

“It’s a totally immersive experience,” he emphasized. “We’re going to challenge you from the minute you walk in the door. You have to know how you’re going to enter the building from your experience. Part of the escapist experience, the kind we’re creating, is emotionally driven.”

Everything from the music they play to the look and feel of the rooms helps create that immersion, Crizo said. Once a person enters Escape Troy, the customer will be painted with a note explaining how to enter the building. At Beginner, you can choose between an easy challenge and a more difficult experience.

Escape Troy’s primary escape room is called “Death Row” where players enter a prison cell and also experience the electric chair. You have to beat the clock and escape to get out of the cell. Escape Troy offers a virtual reality suite with three virtual reality headsets and 13 different experiences.

The “Death Row” escape room shows the “electric chair” when you try to escape from your cell.

“I think a lot of our customers are excited that they’re experiencing something different,” Crizo said. “It’s an escape room but we’re creating a stage and sound and feel that helps you forget that. This is where the immersive aspect comes in. So it’s an escape room, but we’re a little more than that.

Along with providing individuals, families and groups with escape room opportunities, Creazzo Escape Troy also offers group bonding experiences for businesses, schools and groups.

“We’ll walk you through our experiences and then explain,” he said. At the end of everything, we will give you your strengths and weaknesses.

Escape Troy doesn’t plan to stop expanding anytime soon. Creazzo and Johnson are currently working on Escape Troy’s second full-size escape room, and Creazzo says they plan to expand to more VR headsets as well.

Escape Troy is currently open Thursday through Saturday from 3 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Mini escape rooms cost $2 per person and VR experiences are $15 per person. “Death Row” escape rooms are $30 per person with discounts for large groups. Walk-ins are welcome, reservations can also be made online at escapetroy.com. Escape Troy is located next to Moge T at 110 University Boulevard in Troy.
