Employee shares ‘cool perks’ at tech company, sparks debate

[ad_1]

An employee toured TikTokers around her office, showing her and her colleagues the benefits the tech company offered her.

User Vivvie (@vivviey) posted her video earlier this week. She says the office has free breakfast, a restroom, hair accessories, unlimited snacks, and a candy and sandwich bar.

While some users support the benefits-filled workplace, others speculate that the company’s goal may be to keep employees in the office rather than making their workday better.

The video currently has over 4.3 million views.

On the one hand, some users have supported this style of office.

“I don’t understand why other companies don’t accept these,” wrote one user. “It’s a win for the employer and the employee.”

“Such things make employees work harder and be seen,” another user added. “But instead, too many comps want to make workplaces hell.”

“Taking notes when I open my own business one day,” said a third. “This is a simple but important thing for companies to do for their employees.”

There may be some truth in these claims. In the year A 2015 USA Today study found that while “56% of full-time workers are ‘very’ or ‘extremely’ happy with their current job, that number rises to 67% among those who receive free meals.” He said.

They are also 13 percent more productive than their unhappy colleagues, Oxford University’s Said Business School said in 2019.

However, according to some TikTokers, the employer’s plan is not to make the employees happy, but to keep them in the office.

One user commented, “This encourages employees to come in early and stay late, synchronizing it with being at home. “Aka… the trick of capitalism.

“It’s a trick to keep you on task 24/7,” said the second. Vivie responded to this comment by saying, “Okay, it works.”

“We love an employer who makes sure you don’t have to leave their office and get any personal time,” added one more user.
