Drift Collective showcases art, fashion and music in Portsmouth

Trends come and go quickly, which seems impossible not to play a role in fast fashion. You want to sport the newest ripped tee, the hottest neon flare jeans, and as humans we crave what’s right in front of us. With social media, we are always inundated with the hottest trends and it is only natural to want to be a part of that.

In an effort to make trends ethical, affordable and sustainable, Drift Collective in Portsmouth, New Hampshire is creating secondhand clothing to keep up with the trends and even make their own.

As their website shares, the mission at Drift is to do just that.

“…repairing and reinventing handmade clothing, bringing value to unwanted basics and forgotten vintage pieces.”

This is done in-house by converting, repairing, screen printing, dying, building and rebuilding. Just like they say. Reasonable price does not mean cheap.

Drift Collective has a thrift store on hand, but there’s more to the art scene: an art gallery.

Once you develop a taste and appreciation for art, most mediums will appeal to you. So, if you’re into fashion trends, you’re probably interested in art and music. Draft combines a variety of creative methods in a place where illustrators of all styles can enjoy themselves.

Over the weekend, I was finally able to prove it to myself. From the outside, what looks like a normal home for a family of four is an art gallery inside with a beautiful backyard where local musicians perform their art.

The space hosts musicians in the backyard on a wooden stage as part of the Drift Backyard Series, where we can all appreciate art, music, expression, and company in a beautiful and intimate setting.
