According to a new survey, half of all American consumers are interested in eco labels to manage their fashion purchases, including 13.1 percent.

Of Survey Out of 500 U.S. consumers, the RBC’s responsible business unit at the University of Fordham-Gabeley, in partnership with the Robbridge Association, has found more.

  • The demand for eco-labels is mainly for young, college-educated and employed fashion consumers living in urban areas.
  • About half of consumers (46 percent) indicated that recycling was important for them, and that they wanted to be seen on eco labels, followed by human and labor rights (39 percent). Chemical use, animal welfare and material use (33 percent); And carbon footprint (31 percent).
  • Most consumers (65 percent) want eco-tags that are directly related to the brand, price tag, or both. Online, 44% opt for an eco-tag on the website in the form of a permanent icon, website filter, or both.

One of the biggest challenges is the weak record of the fashion industry. According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 95 percent of the world’s textile can be recycled, but 73 percent can be disposed of in a landfill or incinerator.

Sustainability is still being improved.

Last week, the Coalition of Major Fashion Brands: Announced The Norwegian Advertising Observatory has suspended the use of the Higg Materials Sustainability Index after verifying that most environmental claims are misleading or misleading.

Lorzan Asoi, a professor of marketing at Fordham, believes eco-labels encourage fashion brands to make a more sustainable commitment. He also believes that the fashion industry needs to agree on how to measure and report on sustainability metrics, but believes that eco-tags are important when setting standards.

To speak WWDSays Professor Axio, “We have seen the same thing in the history of nutrition claims – these things take time to include.
