New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell (D) is facing scrutiny over her desire for luxury travel in the name of safety, all at taxpayer expense.

Laura Rodrigue, founder of Mama Bear Group, joined “Fox & Friends First” Monday to discuss Cantrell’s sky-high flight costs and his refusal to return the episodes for the high price tag.

“$30,000 is just the difference in cost with a coach seat and first class, and the starting salary for the New Orleans Police Department is $40,000,” Rodrigue told colleague Todd Pirro.

“So now that we’re the homicide capital of the country, you have to take that into account … one of the lowest police department hiring rates, we can’t keep police officers.”

“No wonder the city is the laughingstock of the country,” she continued.

In January, Cantrell flew to Washington, D.C. for $2,300, in March she flew first class to Miami for $2,800, and in June she traveled first class to Switzerland for $9,800.

All of this was followed by a first-class trip to France in July for $17,000.

“The lack of shame, unfortunately, is what we’re used to here,” Rodrigue said. There is complete contempt for the intelligence level of the citizens of Orleans Parish to think that any of us would believe this… Women in New Orleans are now too scared to stop at a red light… A car is about to be thrown.

Cantrill defended her sky-high travel expenses, saying, “My travel arrangements are a matter of safety, not luxury. As all women know, our health and well-being are often neglected, and we are left to travel alone.

“Anyone who wants to ask how do I protect myself doesn’t understand the world black women are entering,” she continued.

“The citizens of Orleans Parish simply make a living and now she’s boldly said, ‘I don’t want to pay it,'” Rodrgue said. “And there are a number of issues you can face down the line. There’s a policy in place that requires you to pay for that.”

“There is also the fact that he can be a criminal by nature,” she continued. “Technically it’s theft, taking something of value with the intent to permanently deprive it.”
