College of Business student Cameron Lewis received a prestigious PCAOB scholarship

Cameron Lewis of Alexandria has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). A recent accounting graduate pursuing a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) at Louisiana Tech University, Lewis was one of 250 students selected to receive the scholarship.

“Receiving this scholarship means a lot to me,” Lewis said. “I was very excited to be selected and thank you for nominating me for the College of Business. This scholarship shows me that there are many people who support me in my journey to become a business professional. I appreciate the support the PCAOB provides to future auditors and accountants.

Since 2011, the PCAOB has presented this merit-based award to select students who have demonstrated excellence in an accounting degree program, demonstrated high ethical standards, and been nominated by a professor.

“In all my years of teaching, Cameron is one of the most outstanding students,” said Dr. David Herda, KPMG Endowed Professor and Associate Professor of Accounting, who nominated Lewis for the award. It’s no surprise that the PCAOB was selected for this prestigious scholarship.

Upon completion of his MAcc degree, Lewis will join Deloitte’s Dallas office as an audit assistant in the firm’s audit and assurance team. Lewis currently serves as president of Louisiana Tech’s National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) chapter and is a lifetime member of Beta Alpha Psi.

“I am grateful to the College of Business and my professors for providing career advice that helped me achieve my goals,” Lewis said. “I have developed relationships with mentors who are passionate about ensuring students’ success as business professionals.”

Since 2011, the PCAOB has administered a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate accounting students enrolled at accredited American colleges and universities. The PCAOB Scholars Program is mandated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and is funded through financial penalties as part of PCAOB enforcement actions.
