Chet Lo London Fashion Week SS23 runway

This season, Asian-American designer Chet Lo stepped out of the Fashion East umbrella and made his own debut at London Fashion Week. For his final collection under the Lulu Kennedy Talent Agency, Chet Lo graced the majestic après-ski with his glorious skiwear.

For Spring/Summer 2023, Lo cited his Buddhist upbringing, frequent temple visits and studying his cultural background. Taking inspiration from ancient Buddhist myths, the collection pays homage to the peaceful religion and finds a similar sense of serenity in itself. Dubbed “Bai-san,” the audience packed London’s Old Selfridges Hotel in anticipation of the designer’s solo debut. Soothing godly music echoed from wall to wall, and as the lights came up, the calm turned to euphoria, turning to a loud techno beat.

Accompanied by a textured XL globular hat inspired by Lotus Lily Pads, Lo’s signature spiky sweater, which he chose to open the show, spread across several looks. The flower, which represents purity and virtue, appears in 3D sculptures, adorning headwear and sandals. Sheer organza is decorated with floral arrangements, serving as a window to the female body. The designer straddles the line between fantasy and reality this season, as the cut-out dresses are detailed up close, while the delicate flowers are seen from afar. Low-waisted flared pants are matched with mini crop tops, while knit sweaters adorn slim skirts.

LO’s menswear debut features leather-clad tops that are gradually splashed with splashes of blue and also bleed through coordinating denim collections in collaboration with ISKO. Pointed toes, parallel bottoms, full head covers and sling bags are accompanied by bright red and pale blue tones.

Colossal globes dangled from the hands of models who walked the runway, while tiny phone cases coiled around their arms like snakes and suspended in mid-air.
