Buzz – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

The Buzz is a collection of Georgia Tech and college athletics. The idea for Buzz started in 1972 when Judy McNair made a Yellow Jacket costume, and in 1980, Buzz became the official Georgia Tech mascot after Richie Bland ran onto the football field (without permission) at a pep rally. Since then, Buzz has been recruited by dozens of students, and he is an official student-athlete and member of the Georgia Tech cheer team. Buzz is an important member of the Georgia Tech community to promote school spirit, spread positivity, and represent Georgia Tech to a national audience.

Buzz is athletic and fearless. From climbing stadiums, stealing deals, or navigating crowds, Buzz can do anything. Buzz is mischievous and loves to pull pranks, but is extremely devoted to his fans. He always stops for photos, and constantly gives high fives, fist bumps and hugs. He loves to dance and is known for his signature Stinger shake. Buzz is full of energy and never stops moving.

Buzz attends all campus sporting events and is central to many game day traditions, including leading the band at every ¾ mark in a game, starting pregame activities with the usual Buzz Flip, and performing interactive skits on game day. Outside of athletics, Buzz is a very active member of the Georgia Tech community. In addition to GT athletic events, Bath attends approximately 300 events on and off campus each year. These include campus engagement events, alumni galas, corporate reunions, and philanthropic events. Every April, Buzz competes in the National Cheerleading Association’s Mascot Division in Daytona Beach, Florida. Buzz is sitting first In this season of 2023, he got the famous Mario skit and the new nickname. National champion!
