This week’s specialty is about the lease businesses’ support for free living, housing and community-based services and support for adults with a wide range of disabilities. HIL provides a range of services to accommodate any individual or situation for a few hours a week to complete residential and general care. Their staff is knowledgeable and experienced, many of whom have been in the organization for years. Wawsa County Regional Director Bethany Wadzinsky’s success at HIL is credited to her upbringing. Every day, the team helps individuals overcome obstacles, make extraordinary achievements, and improve their quality of life with the help and services they receive in homes in the Wisconsin counties – including Wausau. The homes are located in modern, comfortable, clean and quiet neighborhoods where people thrive and grow. In short, tell us about Wisconsin free living. What do you do and who do you serve?
Wisconsin Free Living Homes (HIL) supports more than 140 people in more than 140 residential areas. We provide residential and community-based services and support for adults with a wide range of disabilities. We build more than 140 residential areas, supporting about 450 people in community-based settings.
What is the most rewarding part of being an industry and company?
HIL is interested in serving people with disabilities who feel within the company. It is rewarding to see how much we can change the lives of those we serve.
Can you share your success stories with us?
Here is the story of Marcus Buford, HIL’s live care specialist.
“Although Clarisa is not verbal, she can communicate better than most oral people.
Life was hard before Clarisa arrived at HIL. She had multiple institutional and community assignments, attended the Northern Wisconsin Center and the Winnagogan Mental Health Institute, and spent a lot of time at the North Central Health Care and Crisis Center. She has started several patient detention centers, but unfortunately other detention centers have been started by law enforcement. According to Marcus, Clarisisa struggles to live with others. She often lost control of her anger, which led to verbal and physical abuse as well as property damage and other unsafe behaviors. Her struggles in these settings sometimes led to many attempts at the group houses where she lived.
Over the years, Clarissa has made great strides. Her communication challenges have been addressed through a drawing program, communication link, and tablet and phone, all of which help her communicate with staff. Despite her challenges, Clarissa is very friendly, optimistic, and considerate. She visits her family, eats at restaurants every week, and goes shopping.
Marcus Clarisisa says she enjoys a positive relationship with staff and looks forward to meeting with the people she supports. She sees each day as a new day.
What makes homes independent – what sets you apart?
Our in-depth and knowledgeable staff, range of services and fantastic facilities guide us in providing services to people with disabilities. At HIL, our residents will tell you that we are focused on their abilities and that we have reached unintended goals.
The key to success is to be able to adapt to changing circumstances and circumstances. How did you deal with the CVD-19 epidemic to make sure your customers received as much care as possible?
HIL has knowledgeable leadership from Wisconsin regulators, DHS and CDC. HIL has quickly implemented the recommended mitigation efforts to protect the health and safety of our customers.
What is the best way to do business in the Wausau area?
We like to integrate our residents into the Wasa community. There are many community events that we can encourage our residents to participate in and participate in. We are also able to serve residents who have grown up in the area so they can stay close to home.
