Art – Council Presentation John Law, CEO and President of the Sanibel and Capitiva Chamber of Commerce, made a special presentation to past Board Chair Fran Peters at the Chamber of Commerce’s luncheon on August 10th.

The Chamber recognized the previous board chair

In the year Sanibel and Capita Islands Chamber of Commerce CEO and President John Lai presented Fran Peters for her past service as 2014-15 Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Capitua Island Yacht Club business luncheon on Aug. 10. She recently retired from the Sanibel and Capiva Island vacations she started in 1998. “Without Fran’s guidance and leadership the council would not be where it is today. I know I won’t.”

SunCap Bank named ‘Best Commercial Bank’

Sanibel Capiva Community Bank was named Southwest Florida’s Best Business Bank in the August issue of Gulfshore Business’ 10th Annual Best Business.

Founded in 2003, the bank has two locations on Sanibel and six additional locations in Lee County. It is ranked in the top 2 percent of best performing community banks nationally out of more than 4,400 banks with less than $1 billion in assets by S&P Global Market Intelligence. The bank employs more than 100 employees, more than 40 percent of whom are current shareholders.

SCBWA welcomes new board members

The Sanibel Capiva Business Women’s Association recently welcomed Kelly Hugunin and Kerry Maun as new board members.

Hugunin moved to Sanibel full-time in 2016 and started at Pfeifer Realty Group. A Realtor, she is a member of the Fort Myers Association of Realtors and the Sanibel and Capiva Islands Association of Realtors. Hugunin is currently a SCIAR board member and participates in several SCIAR committees.

She previously worked in the mortgage department at SunTrust, a 24-year career. Hugunin started in hospitality, moved into mortgage loan processing and served as a construction manager and mortgage loan officer. She was named Rookie of the Year by the Mortgage Bankers Association and SunTrust. Hugunin was recognized as a top producer and was a member of the SunTrust Top Producers President’s Club.

She attended Covenant College and earned her bachelor’s degree in business.

Mau, a Realtor with Pfeffer Realty Group, began visiting Sanibel in 1998 and moved to the island in 2003. She is originally from Mendham, New Jersey.

Maw began working with American Express in the corporate travel department at Warner Lambert Pharmaceuticals. In the year In 1992, she moved to Sandoz Pharmaceuticals to assist corporate teams and later began assisting Sandoz Meeting Planner with various types of large meeting logistics. When the company merged with Ciba-GG to become Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Mau was promoted to manager of the meeting planning department.

During her years on the islands, she served on local non-profit boards, helped with fundraising and taught Christian formation for children at St. Isabelle Catholic Church’s youth group.
