Green Diamond announces new leaders
Officials at Green Diamond Resources announced last weekend that Jason Carlson will take over as chief operating officer and Pete Jackson will take over as vice president and general manager of operations at Green Diamond California Operations.
Both Carlson and Jackson started in the July 1 roles.
Carlson replaces Neil Ewald, who retired at the end of June.
“We searched deep inside and out to find big, hard-to-fill shoes, and we concluded that Jason was the best candidate for Green Diamond’s chief operating officer,” said Green President Douglas Reed. A statement from Diamond Resources Company. “Jason is an experienced veteran who can lead without fail. Our entire team is excited about this election, and we look forward to continuing to be a major part of our team for years to come.
Carlson has extensive experience serving green diamonds in the West Coast, including Seattle, Oregon and California.
Jackson began his career in Green Diamond in 1999.

For 23 years, Green Diamond has demonstrated his commitment to our security, integrity, stewardship and community values.
Eureka City Schools celebrates Francis Taplin
In honor of Francis H. Taplin, a long-time teacher and board member of Eureka City Schools, the board has been officially announced by the district office.
On June 23, the Eureka City Schools Board decided to appoint Taplin to the Board of Trustees for more than 57 years as a teacher and trustee in Eureka City Schools.
“Building schools is part of me. I don’t remember a time when I was not part of Eureka City School,” Taplin said.
The superintendent of the district, Fred van Velek, thanked Taplin for her work.
“I can’t think of anyone who could name the board room by name,” he said. “From now on, it is important that all directions from the board take place in a room designated by Mrs. Taplin.”
Taplin resigned from the board on June 18, but is still planning to take an active part in schools and the community, according to the district. She looks forward to spending more time with her family in and around the area.
Taplin She has taught at Franklin and Lafayette schools and has served as president of the Eureka Teachers’ Association for seven years. Taplin retired from Eureka City Schools in 1995 after 31 years with the district. She served as a board member from 1996 to 2022.
