Louisiana Tech University has been named a Military Community Champion by the Bossier Chamber of Commerce for its “commitment to the advancement of our community by investing in our military, their families and veterans on the front lines.”

The new program, which launched in May, highlights those in Bossier City who “go above and beyond to support our military,” said Lisa Johnson, chamber president and CEO.

“We know a lot of retail businesses offer military discounts, but we know there are many other organizations that don’t, but we know there are many other ways to show your support for our military,” said Chamber Military Liaison Cathy Holley. “So the program was created to show our community and how each of these organizations work together to help our soldiers fight.”

Tech’s relationship with Barksdale Air Force Base is long and strong. Programs at Tech Barksdale, established more than 50 years ago, are designed to help military students maximize credits they could earn elsewhere. Many classes are online today.

Most recently, the Louisiana Tech Research Institute has partnered with the Cyber Innovation Center at the National Cyber Research Park in Bossier City to support a number of defense sector efforts.

At the Veteran Resource Center — a partnership between Tech and Bossier Parish Community College — veterans and their families can access services and information. This partnership increases the ability of veterans to earn their undergraduate or graduate degrees close to home.

The nation’s veterans and active duty military will continue to be an important part of our Tech family as we continue to develop strategies to recruit, retain and educate a diverse community of students who contribute to Tech’s inclusive learning environment,” said Dr. Dickie Crawford, Tech’s vice president for student advancement.

Also, in March and for the ninth consecutive year, the university was awarded a silver designation on Victory Media’s 2022-23 list of military-friendly schools.
