COATESVILLE—Now’s your chance to get that satisfying clue while sticking an ax to the bullseye, team building with co-workers, on date night or mingling with family and friends.
While renovations are underway, Splitting Edge Ax Throwing of Coatesville, at 204 E. Lincoln Highway, recently opened for those interested in ax throwing. There is a similar location in Malvern and Pottstown run by the same partners.
Up to 12 people in each lane, who want to enjoy a fun night in Coatesville, are accompanied by a coach who guides everyone through the experience, coordinates games and keeps score.
Splitting Edge is a partnership of Matt Bartnicki, Michael Majewski Jr., Daniel Glennon and Steven Everett. Michael’s father, Michael Sr., is helping to renovate a section of the former Coatesville Records building, which had been an empty space with no plumbing or electricity.
The building features seven lanes with original brick walls, rubber tracks and grass surfaces to make the game look like it’s outside.
Bartnicki said that groups fight each other.
“People come out of their shells like never before,” he said. “This is a fun and different experience.
“Everybody’s gone bowling, now it’s just throwing an axe.”
The coach makes sure everyone is okay.
“If people are getting hurt, it’s not a job,” Bartnicki said.
Majewski Jr. Bartnicki and coaches can teach a person how to throw an ax in a few minutes.
“Matt is the ax major in Chester County,” Majewski Jr. said. “Matt taught me how to throw an ax the right way.”
Bartnicki enjoys teaching and watching someone learn.
“When you get that first bullseye, it’s very encouraging,” he said. “When you take the ax out of the board, all you want to do is redo it.”
Majewski Jr. added several vintage chainsaws as decorations. He also used shelving and parts of a tree to create shelves and a VIP loft on the second floor.
“I love recycling,” he said with a smile.
The recently opened Record Kitchen + Bar offers food and drink by server. There are tables, desks and chairs where you can sit and eat and drink while watching a game. Alcohol will be served, though not the business.
Coatesville Splitting Edge Ax Throwing is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 3am to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 9pm.
