Ariana Simpson talks about the crypto revolution and why a16z is talked about by billions

[ad_1]

Investing in crypto is not for the faint of heart. The dynamic crypto landscape is filled with high-profile remnants such as Terraform Labs, Three Arrows Capital, and FTX. Still, some VC firms — notably investment powerhouse Andreessen Horowitz (commonly known as a16z) — remain bullish on crypto.

In May 2022, a16z announced its fourth crypto fund for $4.5 billion, bringing its total raised for crypto and web3 alone to over $7.6 billion.

The company seems intent on staying in an industry where many traditional VCs have exited. We want to know why. We have questions about the Web 3 investment strategy and more. That’s why we’re thrilled to have Ariana Simpson, General Partner at 16z, join us for a fireside discussion at TechCrunch Disrupt 2023 in San Francisco, September 19–21.

No matter how much you invest, a $4.5 billion fourth round is over the top. We ask Simpson if the possibilities are equally overwhelming and where she sees them taking shape. The company is not only concerned about the ecosystem’s infamous instability, but we are also curious about the impact of the recent shutdown of top banks on crypto and its looming regulation.

We’re interested in discovering the future of The Simpsons Web3 – as the industry continues to grow and expand beyond tech and gaming enthusiasts to include a wider consumer audience. And that’s just for starters. We’re sure to field more questions between now and September.

Arianna Simpson, general partner at a16z, invests in crypto. Before joining the VC firm, Simpson founded Independent Partners, an investment fund focused on cryptocurrencies and digital assets. She also helped launch Crystal Towers Capital, an early-stage fund that invests in Y Combinator companies.

Previously, Simpson worked in sales and product roles for bitcoin and other digital currencies at Facebook and BitGo, an enterprise security company. She holds a double degree in International Politics and Spanish from Schreier Horse College at Penn State University.
