After 30 years in business, ‘Jake’s Over the Top’ is closing.

Today, Smith and her father are getting their last from Top Shack. She says the lines are always there but never look like this.

“We’re sad we can’t wait for him anymore,” she said.

Corey Dolan and family should join in on what has become a long-standing tradition.

“I think it’s the best snow around. I mean, it’s soft serve, it’s nice to mix in,” Dolan said. “I’m heartbroken that the peanut butter is out, but I mean, it is, right?”

But for the Dolan family, it’s about more than food.

“Yes, since I was little, and now a staple for these people. We come at least once or twice a week, so it’s sad to see it go,” Dolan said.

And keeping up with the community’s response is a lot for the staff and owner Lisa King.

“We’re just so grateful to see all these people watching over us and helping us over the last couple of days,” King said.

She only had about a minute to speak, but she wanted to thank her many customers and employees over three decades.

“We’re looking forward to retirement. It’s been 30 years so we’re ready,” King said.

With life, comes change. And sometimes you leave what you have for what’s to come.

“My husband did the first modification and sold his ’70 Camaro so we could buy our first ice cream machine,” King said. “It’s time to buy another 70 Camaro and rest.”

We all have to move on eventually, but there’s still time for one last shake of the old days.
