Arguably the prettiest of America’s major cities, it’s lined with beautiful homes and buildings on a beautiful hill, with the coast shrouded in fog. But for many of us, San Francisco is not home. That’s why we’ve made our latest selection for Just Booked, about our beautiful new travel books. San Francisco: Cityscape From bags.

With an illuminating text by Richie Unterberger and exquisite photography selected by editor Reuel Golden, the book is a journey into this fabled city of the past century and a half. This city is divided into periods (1846-1929, 1930-1945, 1946-1963, etc.)

Historical images from Carlton E. Watkins 1869 from Telegraph Hill or Arnold Gente’s Chinatown, Jack’s shot of gamblers in London and the aftermath of the earthquake. Then, as the decades go by and you find the wonderfully urban and modern photos of Imogen Cunningham or even a shot of Danielle Steele in the back of a car, it’s hard to believe that they came from the same city. But that’s the beauty of San Francisco and this book.
