New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was hit by pitcher Ian Anderson during Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves. Anderson’s pitch sailed over Alonso’s head, but luckily the first baseman got out of the way and wasn’t hit. Mets manager Buck Showalter, though, was understandably not happy about what made the SNY broadcast clear.
After the game, SNY cameras caught Showalter staring down the field. The look on Showalter’s face made it clear he was disappointed. But if there was any lingering doubt, SNY has dispelled that in visual and audio form.

This is not something you see very often, especially on short notice.
These are the kinds of things you’d expect to see on a postgame show where the show’s producers have plenty of time to find the right background music and figure out what they’re doing on screen. The SNY team, however, was jonesy on the spot, setting everything up to make it happen in a matter of seconds.
Of course, this raises a natural question. How will SNY track this if and when this happens again? A touch of steam coming out of Showalter’s nose and ears might be a nice touch, but it might be too much to ask.
