The first official post-pandemic summer sees millions of travelers heading to their favorite European destinations. Almost all European countries have removed all entry requirements, so many travelers don’t need to worry about the entry requirements for Covid. The most recent country to do so was France, which lifted entry restrictions on August 1St2022. Only three European countries still have Covid entry requirements for international travelers after France’s announcement.
The last three countries in Europe with entry requirements are Spain, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Travelers to other European countries do not have to worry about: vaccination status, recovery confirmation, testing or quarantine. Unfortunately, for those wishing to visit one of the three countries listed above, there are still restrictions that force some travelers to seek other destinations.
Spanish entry requirements
For travelers from the European Union or Schengen Associated countries, there are no restrictions on entering Spain. For those coming from countries like the US or Canada, entry requirements still apply.
Travelers must show proof of one of the following:
- Covid-19 vaccination certificate
- A negative NAAT test taken within 72 hours of baseline or an antigen test taken within 24 hours of baseline.
- Certificate of recovery from covid-19.
For those willing to meet one of the above requirements, Spain currently allows tourists to visit. Restrictions on occupancy in institutions have been lifted, and it is not mandatory to wear a mask indoors or outdoors, except in public transport or health centers. Dutch standards
For travelers from the European Union or Schengen Associated countries, there are no restrictions on entry into the Netherlands. For those coming from countries like the US or Canada, entry requirements still apply.
Travelers must show proof of the following:
- Covid-19 vaccination certificate
For those who want to visit the Netherlands fully vaccinated, their trip shouldn’t get in the way. Masks are not required anywhere, including on public transport. Public places such as restaurants or pubs are operating as normal and no longer require a covid entry pass.
Luxembourg requirements
For travelers from the European Union or Schengen Associated countries, there are no restrictions on entry into Luxembourg. For those coming from countries like the US or Canada, entry requirements still apply.
Travelers must show proof of one of the following:
- Covid-19 vaccination certificate
- Certificate of recovery from covid-19
For fully inoculated travelers, Luxembourg is still an option to visit. There is no quarantine requirement, and no curfew. There is no mask mandate except in hospitals and elderly care centers.
When do the entry requirements end?
Unfortunately, the entry requirements deadlines for Spain, the Netherlands and Luxembourg can only be estimated. However, each has given indications that the entry requirements are at an end. All three countries have revised their entry requirements for EU or Schengen Associated citizens, allowing them to visit without restrictions. After the countries eased restrictions on citizens of the EU and Schengen Associated countries, they are confident they will move forward with removing restrictions on the rest of the world while controlling case counts and infection rates.
Are restrictions for good?
Let’s hope! Travelers have been hit with restrictions in some countries over the past few years. Countries like England In the year By July 2021, almost all of the Covid restrictions were gone, only to see them return with a vengeance when Omicron hit the country in December of that year. Most countries seem to have decided that enough is enough.
However, the World Health Organization has recently urged Europe to restore Covid restrictions before the autumn and winter season is too late. Whether or not the Covid restrictions will last for good, it seems that most travelers and countries are ready to relax.
