Europe is a top summer destination for Bostonians because we have several nonstop daily flights from Logan and overnight schedules that even allow for a long weekend on the Atlantic. But with all the recent flight delays, baggage issues and airport strikes, traveling to Europe might not be on your mind right now. There are still plenty of fun places for Bostonians to visit this winter, though, and many of them may be a little unexpected.

Why travel to the Caribbean in the “off season”.

The months of June through November are typically considered the “off season” for most of the Caribbean because of both hurricanes and warm temperatures. However, if you’re willing to take a bit of a chance, rain or shine, winter can be a great time to visit some of the region’s luxury destinations. Accommodation prices are low and flights aren’t as packed because everyone is heading to Cape Cod or France and Italy. A road less traveled to Bostonians in the summer is the Caribbean.

One under-the-radar island worth visiting right now is Anguilla. Anguilla is known for its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and tranquil hotels. However, with no cruise ports or major non-stop flight routes, getting to Anguilla almost always requires a detour through St. Martin and subsequent ferry charter transfers.
