Natalie Rose is sharing body image tips to take with you on vacation.
The Canadian eating disorder therapist and influencer took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a video from her European vacation, paired with an important message about weight gain and body acceptance while traveling.
“Body Image Tips: Travel Edition,” she captioned the Instagram reel, adding the following tips: “1. Avoid judging your appearance in every reflection. 2. Be intentional about looking for beauty around you. 3. Eat regularly and respect your body’s needs. 4. Compare bodies. Stop – it’s not a race 5. Do as many exercises as you can!
The Toronto-based psychotherapist paired her video with a candid caption that says she was inspired by her struggle with an eating disorder, specifically the trip that led her to start dieting in the first place.
“Travel was a big trigger for me, and I never thought I’d feel so free outside of the comfort of my own little world. In fact, I first started dieting when I was 14 when I came back from a trip to Italy, where I’d put on a little weight,” she says.
“I remember feeling very uncomfortable with my body on the trip, comparing my body to other girls carelessly and feeling so trapped and unhappy. It was me and that bodies come in all shapes and sizes,” she continued.
“I wish I could focus on the moments I missed and appreciate my own worth and the experiences that are happening around me. I’ve learned to do this through a lot of practice, trial and error. I hope you find these tips helpful,” she said.
Rose’s post was quickly met with applause for shedding light on an “under-discussed” issue.
“Thanks for sharing! Very well said. I feel like this is something that isn’t said enough,” shared one person. “I get really anxious around trips because not only do I put on weight on vacation, but I’m afraid I won’t look my best while I’m there, so I starve myself before the trip. It completely defeats the purpose of traveling and makes it hard for me to enjoy before, during and after the holiday, which is to relax and have a good time. .So thanks for shedding some light on this!”
“I love these tips! Traveling can be so overwhelming. Thanks for sharing!” Another echo.
“Thanks! After a long and recent trip, I’ve been thinking a lot about this. This post helped me a lot, and I’ll keep it in mind,” commented another.
“Absolutely loved this! Thanks for sharing,” added another.
