Holland, Mitch. – Student of Careerline Tech Center / Heavy Equipment Mechanics Program wins gold medal at SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. Caver Buchaard, a graduate of Coopersville High School, won the medal at the diesel technology competition.
The 2022 Capacity USA National Leadership and Capacity Conference was held June 20-24 in Atlanta, Georgia. 5,2000 students competed, making it the world’s largest skill competition. Some 40 Nafta students from different parts of the country demonstrated their technical skills and knowledge in various fields. This includes motors, vehicle components, braking systems, electricity and more. The students participated in a mock interview and were later evaluated.
After winning the Michigan Skills USA Diesel Technology Competition in Michigan Skills, he qualified for the national competition. During the summer, he met with the teachers of the Tech Center to prepare for the competition.
“We are very proud of Caleb’s performance in the SkillsUSA competition and his technical experience,” said Jason Alberda, a professor of diesel / heavy equipment mechanics at Careerline Tech Center. “Caleb and his classmates were hardworking students who exemplified teamwork. Everyone is happy to teach! ”
“Caleb has worked hard to win this gold medal and he deserves it very much,” said Kevin Wrisma, a teacher at Careerline Tech Center Diesel / Heavy Equipment Mechanics. “I was honored to help Caleb. His victory will never be forgotten. Seeing students work so hard and achieve their goals is one of the reasons I have been teaching for more than 30 years.
