It’s Friday night on Park Avenue in Winter Park, and most people know they have to hunt for open parking. Now, the city is hoping to fix bad parking problems by trying to make sensors easier to park.

“Sometimes I feel like I’m wasting my time getting up here and hitting traffic,” said Wilson Wilson.

You can see circular sensors on the brickwork known as Park Avenue. The city is experimenting with technology that combines information gathered by sensors with some online applications that show open spaces. Feedback from Park Avenue visitors is mixed.

“If they suddenly took the train away from me, I would use that,” said Robert Kender. Texi McLean “I don’t think so, honestly.”

Officials say the pilot program is of no value to the city. They plan a 30-day experiment to gather information and see if the technology works before it can be sustained. He said the city has taken other steps to increase parking and provide parking license readers to find out who has exceeded parking time.
