Wash your hair
These extra steps in my hair care routine not only leave my tresses smooth and shiny but uplift my mood too! When you feel low-spirited and unmotivated, you may be more likely to leave hair unwashed for days. We often forget how much lighter and refreshed we feel with freshly clean hair. A scalp brush is perfect for massaging the head during shampooing. It’s also great for unclogging and buffing away the buildup of dirt, sebum and dandruff on the scalp.
Aside from shampoo and conditioner, I always put on a leave-in treatment after briefly towel-drying my wet hair. Sometimes I use hair oil instead if my tresses are extra dry. If my hair feels limp and damaged, I replace the conditioner step with a hair mask to provide more intensive hair care.
Skin care mixology
Mixing serums is my go-to technique to make products easier to absorb into skin, while saving me time and steps in my skin care routine. Besides customizing for your skin concerns, the mixing and application process can also be particularly cathartic. Sometimes, I’m pleasantly surprised by the effects of mixing serums. When combining very different serums together, I recommend adding a drop of an oil-based serum with a thick, viscous serum, or a silky formula together with a creamy one.
Quick facials
I love a full-body massage. If I could indulge in a session every week or day, I’d do it in a heartbeat. If a full-body massage seems a little farfetched when you’re in goblin mode, a quick DIY facial massage is a more convenient alternative. Simply keep a rose quartz face roller or a gua sha within reach whenever you need tension relief. To make the step feel more like a proper massage, use the tool in combination with a facial oil or hyaluronic acid ampoule.
Sheet-mask it away
My fellow editors all know I’m not a big fan of sheet masks, but I was a frequent user back when I lived in a cold country where the weather often made my skin very dry.
