Founder’s journey
Anju Binani Damani, Founder and Creative Director Miska, has always been a designer by blood. She graduated from Bhawanipur Education Society College, Kolkata and completed her further studies in Designing at National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata (NIFT). Anju, a mother of two, started her career as a designer at the age of 30 with only ten designs in her hand. Her mother and husband only offered emotional support in her endeavors. In 2019, Miska (Misqan) started on her own with her dream to design trendy clothes for women and girls.
Design the idea
The idea of creating fashionable clothes has been running in the Anju family for the past 40 years. Her father and brother run Bie, a children’s fashion business abroad in India. Her husband is also creating men’s clothing under the global brand Blue Kids. Anju had other ideas. She wanted to create something for women and young girls. As Head of Marketing, Anju started covering the garment market of West Bengal. After achieving success in Bengal, she expanded her business to the suburbs of southern India.
Misca currently offers women’s and children’s clothing, featuring colorful and versatile crew neck t-shirts, capris and hot pants, as well as sections for women and little girls of all ages.
Compete with the market
The founder believes in healthy competition. She talks about how price, quality and customer relationship management are important in differentiating one company from another, and says she’s concerned about the lack of women in the B2B industry. Talking about her business, she gets orders from retailers easily because of the price and quality that her brand offers as a pan-India wholesaler. Miska even has its own website where people can shop for affordable and fashionable casual wear. Their prices typically vary between Rs. 400 and Rs. 800, makes them affordable. Apart from that, she plans to expand her business to Dubai. They will also launch their flagship store soon.
Work environment
Anju provides a healthy working environment to its employees. As creative director, she lets her team members think creatively and bring out the best in the product. She believes that the relationship between the employer and the employee should be as open as possible.
Consequences of covid
Miska in 2010 It’s been an online brand since its inception in 2019, so it hasn’t had to deal with the Covid-related fallout. Currently, when the covid is not at its peak, the founder is slowly and steadily trying to enter the offline market.
