Toronto sports fans know all too well how expensive it is to catch a Maple Leafs or Raptors game at Scotiabank Arena these days.
Any Leafs fans eager to get into the building to finally see their team play in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs this year know they’ll have to empty their wallets, forcing many to follow from home — or on the Maple Leafs’ court. Instead.
The cheapest pair of tickets for Game 1 at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday come in at $268 each (before taxes and fees) on Stubhub, which is steep for a spot in the nosebleeds.
If you want to get close to the action, you’ll need to shell out at least $486 for a ticket in the lower bowl, with most tickets coming in much higher than that.
Hard to justify, no matter how much you love the Maple Leafs.
But would it be cheaper to travel to Florida and catch a game there instead?
The Panthers restricted ticket sales to U.S. residents only when sales began Monday, but traveling fans should have no problem purchasing tickets at resale locations.
For now, the cheapest ticket to catch Game 3 at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise compared to those at Scotiabank Arena comes in at $244 on Stubhub. If you want to sit in the lower bowl, you can save around $100 per ticket compared to Toronto, where the cheapest pair of seats is $375 each.
While you may not be saving a lot of money on tickets, a trip to the Sunshine State never hurts if you want to escape a little, all while your favorite team makes a postseason run.
A round trip flight from Toronto to Fort Lauderdale on Friday (returning on Sunday) costs $600-$700 on Expedia. A hotel near the arena can cost you between $200 and $350 a night, depending on how much you have to spend on accommodations. And you’re only half an hour away from the beach and the golden Florida sun, which is priceless in itself.
So no, it’s not cheap to travel to Sunrise to watch the Buds take on the Panthers. But for a game of hockey, there might not be a better ride.
