What does it take to make an unforgettable introduction? No matter what, you have to stand out in some way, shape or form.
Some athletes let their clothes do all the talking. Others like to use the buddy system – grouping the treadmill with a teammate or other partner. Occasionally, players accidentally or intentionally dress up as teammates. And less frequently, players use props to improve the catwalk.
In this week’s NHL-style power rankings, readers see a little bit of everything. No details were available as 16 teams advanced to the playoffs – and for the remaining 16 teams whose seasons ended, there was no better time to watch them go out.

10. Nashville Predators
There was no question that the Predators had that “dawg” in them, but a week before the season ended, Nashville teamed up with Pedigree and Mars Petcare to bring adoptable dogs to Bridgestone Arena with photos of adoptable dogs on their shirts (including Kiefer). Experienced people learn what will and will not fly in the workplace, so it makes sense that Jack wears a beanie and low sneakers with his suit. Luke is comparatively more dressed. A purple plaid dress is just as mismatched, but takes less chances with the outfit.
Jarvis sports a cyan suit with a dark-purple tie, while Kotkanimi wears a dark-purple suit with lavender. The two Carolina Hurricanes centers look great in their respective outfits. Kotkaniemi’s pinstripe dress is sharp, and the color gives it a royal feel. Jarvis’ clothing stands out because of its bright, fun colors, and makes it look casual with Stan Smith sneakers.
If Brooks Brothers is looking for any suit models, the Devil’s Center should be one of the company’s first calls. This photo looks like a suit ad — and just in time for men to start ordering those linen suits for Memorial Day weekend. Everything about Hischier looks perfectly put together, especially the mahogany tie with the tan three-piece suit. A little look around the corner with one hand in his pocket brings it all together.
And the winner for Proposal of the Year goes to… the Buffalo Sabres’ center! I give a lot of credit to the photographers during this series, but I want to thank the Sabers photo team for capturing this incredible moment. Cozens went all out with this dark-blue pinstripe suit, then did the opposite idea with the dress shirt, as the previous stripes were light blue. I love the black belt with the black Louis Vuitton belt.
Ryan Lomberg looked up to Duclair with the same eagerness that I wanted someone to take a picture of me. It’s an easy wish, but look how happy the Florida Panthers teammates are during this photo shoot. This is teamwork you will love to see! The wingman couldn’t leave Duclair alone until he got the perfect shot of a front tan, a three-piece suit with a baby-blue shirt, black skirt and trousers.
I can’t believe it took until April to show the Canadian tuxedo. Special thanks to the Calgary Flames for breaking the mold. Lucic was able to easily combine three different types of denim together, and he did the right thing with the brown, suede Vans high tops.
Lavender three-piece suit? And no tie? Wait, is he wearing socks?! And do I spy lavender in the Kraken center sock with my little eye? When players wear socks these days, it’s even more surprising if they don’t, given the current trend. Thank you for choosing the small details and also the trendy color in the dressing.
1. Bo Horvath
Horvat is dressing like a $68 million man after the eight-year contract he signed in February during his best scoring season. There is nothing out of place about Horvat’s collection. His clothes are so amazingly designed, and the fit is perfect. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel here, as Horvath works in a black and white plaid suit jacket, a black tie as a centerpiece and a white handkerchief adorning his suit pockets.
