Air Stream is distinguished by its excellent aluminum travel trailer. Staying true to the design and adapting to the ever-changing RV landscape, Airstream and Studio FA Porsche teamed up to design the Airstream Coach, featuring refined aerodynamics, a pop-up roof for headroom, and a suspended suspension to reduce parking space for city dwellers. Airstream is a new RV manufacturer, but this Porsche-designed next-gen Airstream trailer is a far cry from what its predecessor has managed in years past. The result of a “what if” collaboration between the two design partners, the concept may be very different but with very little of the Air Stream’s signature cracked aluminum look.

A photo-realistic rendering of a conceptual 1/3 scale model of the futuristic Airstream model will be on display at the ongoing South by Southwest Conference and Festival in Austin, TX. The airflow at the front features an improved aerodynamic shape, while the underbody design minimizes drag.

A first-of-its-kind Air Stream trailer with low suspension, this Porsche design is optimized for towing by electric vehicles. The design allows a lot of stuff to fit in the 10-inch space below that trailer floor. Therefore, water tanks, heating elements, spare tires and lithium-ion batteries are all installed in there to save space on board.

On board, the pop-up roof creates more headroom when you’re seated and the rear seating area can quickly transform into a work or dining area. It can also be converted into an 82″ x 61″ sleeping area when night falls. This versatile living space can be opened outdoors with a rear-opening hatch, which, with attached awnings, creates a dark space for relaxing or planning your next adventure.

The luxuriously furnished trailer has a wet bathroom featuring a swinging door that hides the toilet. The galley has a folding counter that extends all the way to the main entrance, creating an L-shaped workspace similar in size to that of very spacious travel trailers. With a healthy design and provision for integrating solar panels on the roof, the battery-powered Porsche x Airstream travel trailer is perfect for both in-town and off-the-grid adventures.
