Texas Tech split the two games in its first trip to Iowa City last season. The Red Raiders won their series opener 11-3 on Saturday, March 19 at Duane Banks Field. Texas Tech piled on a Saturday-high four runs in the eighth inning to put the game well out of reach, but it was a three-run, two-out rally in the fourth that was sparked by Dillon Carter’s triple, followed by a single from Easton Murrell and a home run by Cole Stillwell. Earlier scheduled Friday night starter Andrew Morris backed up Saturday starter Brandon Birdel after throwing the first five innings. Kyle Robinson finished the game in the ninth. On Sunday, Iowa snapped Tech’s seven-game winning streak with a 6-3 victory over the Red Raiders to claim its all-time winning streak. Mason Molina started for Tech and was 1-1 through the first five innings as he went to a game-high nine strikeouts. Brandon Girton, in his final game of 2022 in relief, was gifted a sixth-inning walk by Molina, and Iowa couldn’t limit the damage as Texas rallied for four runs in the sixth as Texas led 5-1.
