A glamorous crowd flocked to the Christie’s Hall in New York to celebrate the late Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley’s collection during fashion week on Thursday.

The Cut’s executive producer Lindsay Peoples gave the opening remarks and the choir of Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church sang before guests — including designers Vera Wang, Zac Posen, Nicky Hilton and Derek Blasberg — looked on in Talley’s trademark caftans, including Louis Vuitton bags. and works of art.

Fashion expert and TV personality Bevy Smith told us, “Andre Leon Talley was one. If you’re a black man in fashion, he was a lamp, even if you didn’t know it. He was someone they could look up to, look up to, and be encouraged by.

Smith was friends with Tally, who passed away last year, from the moment she met him, telling us he always supported her “when I was 26 years old at my first fashion week in Paris.”

“He gave me a second row seat at the Vivienne Westwood show because I was sitting in the back,” Smith said. “He was such a nurturing kind spirit to me. I love him and miss him dearly, but I’m so happy to see his legacy live through this amazing auction.

Former Vogue editor Edward Barsamian told us, “Without Andre, there would be a lack of beauty. Andre, in every single editorial, in all aspects of his life in general, sought to emphasize the interesting, the beautiful, the unique. I feel that without him, fashion wouldn’t be where it is – as inclusive, as open, as fantastic.
