Lubbock, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to No. 15 Iowa State 81-58 at United Supermarkets Arena in front of a crowd of 5,868 in the Big 12 opener in the preseason poll to win the league.
After trailing by 17 points, Texas Tech (12-2, 0-1 Big 12) used a 10-0 run with 6:13 to close to 61-54 with a game to play.
On the ensuing Iowa State (9-2, 1-0 Big 12) possession, Preston Big 12 Player of the Year Ashley Jones drove the route and fell to the ground. Jones filled in a floater that found the bottom of the net while falling.

Offense counted in Texas Tech’s favor 18-6 in the final three quarters as the Lady Raiders shot just five free throws. 24 of Iowa State’s 27 field goals came in the final three quarters.
In a spirited affair closer to the final score, Scott finished with a Tech-best 18 points, and after a post-game James Lewis He contributed 13 points and six rebounds in a season-high 23 minutes.

Iowa State held the Lady Raiders to just one point in the final two minutes, 29 seconds, and Tech was unable to win the rest of the third period. The defensive effort gave the visitors a 57-44 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Iowa State again hit its first four points to take a 61-44 lead with 9:12 to play.
Finding a way back into the game, Tech scored the next 10 points to pull within 61-54 with 6:13 to play.
Iowa State used the sequence mentioned by Jones to score the next seven points and 20 of the final 24 points.
The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak and marked Tech’s first loss since Nov. 15.
