“Puerto Rico is open and safe to travel.”

Puerto Rico tourism officials are urging visitors to stay on top of their plans to travel to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Fiona.

“We want to reassure visitors who are already planning a trip to San Juan that Puerto Rico is open and safe,” Discover Puerto Rico CEO Brad Dean said in a statement.

While officials continue to assess the storm’s impact, Puerto Rico’s main air hub, Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, is fully operational.

On September 22, the island’s Mercedita airport in Ponce also reopened, and all ports reopened with cruises returning on September 24.

Most hotels and venues are already open and in operation, with officials looking forward to what they describe as a “phased reopening of popular tourist attractions”.

Old S Old San Juan, La Placita de Santurce, Piñones, Casa Bacardi, Puerto Rico Convention Center, Frutos del Guacabo and DISTRITO T-Mobile are already open.

The El Yunque rainforest, however, remains closed.

Puerto Rico is set to host the Caribbean’s largest travel conference, Caribbean Travel Marketplace, on October 3, presented by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.
