Located in the California desert, Joshua Tree National Park is named for the rare and beautiful trees in the park. Many national parks are best visited in summer. However, Joshua Tree’s desert location makes it ideal for visiting during the cooler parts of the year. Here are 7 top reasons to consider visiting this fall.
1. Pleasant weather
Temperatures in Joshua Tree National Park can easily rise above 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) during the summer. Temperatures hover in the 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit (20-26 degrees Celsius) range at their best during the fall season – especially from October to late November. This makes exploring the great outdoors not only more comfortable, but safer as you don’t have to worry about overheating or dehydration.
2. The amazing star sight
Joshua Tree National Park is a great place for those who want to see some amazing sky views. The relatively remote location of the area results in less light pollution. While it’s chilly at night, temperatures still hover in the 50s during the fall, which means a jacket will be warm enough to keep you warm while watching the milk.
3. Annual music festival
If you enjoy music, here’s another reason to visit Joshua Tree this fall! The Joshua Tree Music Festival runs from October 6-9. Past years’ lineups have featured up-and-coming artists from a variety of genres, from indie to electro-punk. The festival is hosted by Joshua Tree Lake Campground and RV Park and tickets are available for purchase online.
4. One of the good things
The Joshua Tree Music Festival is not the only event hosted in the park. There are many types of exercises that stray from your normal nature walk. For example, those interested in photography will love the evening photography workshops. Meanwhile, the farmer’s market every Saturday in the nearby town of Joshua Tree is a great place to find locally made produce and food.
5. The beautiful desert trips
Joshua Tree is home to countless hikes for hikers of all skill levels, and fall is the perfect time to check some out thanks to cooler temperatures. If you’re looking for a beginner-friendly hike, check out the Arch Rock Trail. As the name suggests, this 1.4 mile hike features a natural arch through the desert landscape. If you’re up for more of a challenge, the Lost Palms Oasis Trail is a 7.5-mile hike that leads you to hidden palm groves.
6. Great wildlife viewing opportunities
If you love animals, Josiah Tree National Park is a great place to see wildlife in its natural habitat. The park is home to more than 50 mammals, including coyotes, antelopes and foxes. Early mornings and early mornings are often the best times to see animals. Visitors should be careful to keep a safe distance from any wildlife and avoid feeding them.
7. Wide waiting areas
Joshua Tree National Park is a great choice for all types of visitors thanks to the variety of accommodations available. Whether you’re looking for a rental at AutoCamp Joshua Tree or a beautiful campground, there’s something for everyone in or near the park. For those who like to camp, fall is an especially great time to do so. The night temperature is still very hot.
